Lyndsay’s A-Z of Microsoft Teams – V is for (part 2!)…

There’s SO MUCH going on in Microsoft Teams as a product, how do you even start to talk about it?! In this blog series I’m going to attempt to work my way through the letters of the alphabet, talking about as many features as I can think of in turn.

If you’re new to Teams, hopefully this helps you find your way around. If you’re not new to Teams, maybe you’ll still get some new ideas. Here we go…

V is for Viva! (Learning)

Last time we looked at Viva Insights, for part 2 this time we’ll be looking at Viva Learning.

Viva Learning is another module available in the Viva Suite, if you have access to it (you likely will if you already use Microsoft Teams) – you’ll find it in Apps in Teams:

Click to open it – as with all apps you’ll have the option to pin it for easy access later.

You’ll be presented with a homepage of what is essentially an LMS or Learning Management System:

The more you use it and tailor it to your needs, the more personalised it will become in time.

If you scroll you’ll find that it includes content from Microsoft and also LinkedIn Learning courses. You can filter by provider or duration, which can be handy if you’ve only got a short time available:

You can also pick your interests and tell Viva Learning what kind of content you’re looking for:

Once you’ve picked your interests, Viva Learning will tailor the content you see on the homepage more towards your interests. As you can see I’ve said I’m interested in Artificial Intelligence, so now Viva Learning is showing me content related to that:

Now I don’t have to do so much hunting around for what I’m interested in.

Watch out for the little key symbol on the LinkedIn content though:

This means you need a LinkedIn learning subscription (which is a paid subscription) to access it. If you find a course you’d like to come back to later, you can bookmark it:

Then when you flip over to the My Learning tab, the bookmarked course will show for you there:

You can also see which courses you have in progress and what you have completed:

(Viva Learning doesn’t seem to be clever enough to know if you’ve actually completed the course though, you just press a button to mark it as complete and it will show up here.)

You can also share courses with people, channels and group chats straight in Microsoft Teams. Click on ‘share’:

And then type the person or chat or channel you want to share it with:

It will send them a message about the course:

Which you can view and follow up with:

An interesting use case for this would be if you had a group of new starters and you wanted to line up training for them, you could share links to Viva Learning training straight into a group chat for them all.
