Lyndsay’s A-Z of Microsoft Teams – N is for…

There’s SO MUCH going on in Microsoft Teams as a product, how do you even start to talk about it?! In this blog series I’m going to attempt to work my way through the letters of the alphabet, talking about as many features as I can think of in turn.

If you’re new to Teams, hopefully this helps you find your way around. If you’re not new to Teams, maybe you’ll still get some new ideas. Here we go…

N is for… Noises, Notes and New stuff (like AVATARS!)

A bit of a random collection of Microsoft Teams features beginning with N this week …

Noises

Did you know that you can change the sound of your Microsoft Teams ringtone? If you’re sick of hearing the same old tune, go to the three dots in the top right corner (where else?!)

Choose settings

And go to Calls and Ringtones

You’ll get a dropdown box with the option to change your incoming call ringtone. One of my faves is ‘Remix’ because that’s how cool I am…

Notes

Did you know that when you’re in a Teams meeting, you can start meeting notes? Everyone who has access to the meeting can also see the meeting notes, so it’s a handy way of making sure everyone’s on the same page.

Once you’re in a Teams meeting, go to the three dots and choose Meeting Notes

You’ll get a reminder that the meeting notes are not private just to you

Once you press take notes, a text editor will open up for you to type in and even add different sections to:

Nifty! (And going to get niftier with Recap and Copilot, but more on that another time.)

New stuff

Microsoft release new Teams features ALL THE TIME, which is exciting but also hard to keep up with.

You can check out the ‘what’s new’ updates any time to see what the latest new stuff is; What’s new in Microsoft Teams – Microsoft Support

It’s worth checking out every once in a while, because some of it, like Avatars, are way cool!

You (yes you!) can get your avatar by going to the Teams app store and searching for Avatars

Click on add and add again

Then you can get straight to work building your Avatar!

Note: it’s easy to lose a lot of time to this! Even though your Avatar doesn’t have legs, there are still A LOT of customisation options to choose from, including body shape, skin tone, face, hair and clothes.

Thank goodness there aren’t any feet as I know I would have deliberated a long time over shoes.

Then when you join a meeting, instead of using your camera, choose effects and avatars

And choose the Avatar you’ve created

During the meeting, go to the three dots (more) and choose effects and avatars again for the option to make your avatar do different actions, which can be useful to show that you’re still engaged in the meeting even in cartoon form

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that the avatar feature doesn’t actually begin with the letter n, but it’s new, (and it’s my blog) so … there.
